Young Miscellany Folk Dance Group - Stave Dancing

These originate mainly from the Shaftsbury area in Dorset. The dancers hold one pole each, decorated with ribbons on the top end.

The dances incorporate intricate weaving patterns, using the poles to make arches, or they are lifted above the head for a turn partner or central focus with the ribbons hanging vertical.
